LEXINGTON, Ky. — With the seventh-ranked Florida Gators holding a 10-6 lead over No. 30 Kentucky with no outs in the top of the eighth inning, play on Friday night at Cliff Hagan Stadium has been suspended due to heavy rains in the central Kentucky area.
Florida (23-9, 8-4 Southeastern Conference) broke open a 6-6 game with a two-out, three-run homer from freshman slugger Austin Maddox in the top of the seventh, with UF adding a run in the top of the eighth inning in the form of a solo homer from Matt den Dekker, before play was suspended and the tarp was pulled over the infield with Florida third baseman Bryson Smith at the plate. Right before play was suspended UK pulled freshman Jordan Cooper in favor of freshman Walter Wijas.
Kentucky (21-12, 4-8 SEC) has got a pair of solo homers from senior catcher Marcus Nidiffer in the game, with sophomore Andy Burns adding hit team-best 10th homer of the year. Shortstop Taylor Black added his fifth homer in the game. UK starting pitcher Logan Darnell allowed seven hits and six runs – four earned – in his six innings of work, walking two and striking out three. Cooper relieved Darnell and allowed the four decisive runs on three hits and a walk in his one inning of work.
