PADUCAH, Ky. — After gathering his first professional victory earlier this month at the Cherry Blossom Invitational, 2009-10 University of Kentucky men’s golf senior Jordan Blann continued his momentum in professional golf, winning the 2010 Pepsi-SuperValu Irvin Golf Championships at Paxton Park Golf Course on Sunday.

The native of Bowling Green, Ky., posted a 5-under-par 66 to win the event at 11-under-par. Blann scored a 6-under-par 65 in the opening round and stood one shot back heading into the final round. The former UK star won the event by three strokes over Chris Erwin of Spring Hill, Tenn. Fellow UK grad Matthew Kohn, the defending champion of the event, finished tied for 16th place in the 44-player field with a 69-72-141.

“I am so excited about starting my professional career with such a hot start,” said Blann. “I am playing with a lot of confidence right now and just having a lot of fun. Coach (Brian) Craig and Kentucky have really prepared me well for professional golf. Now that I am out of college, I am trying to represent the Big Blue the best I can.”

The victory is the second professional win of Blann’s young career. Earlier this summer, Blann won his second consecutive Kentucky State Amateur Championship. In his senior season with Kentucky, Blann played in all 11 events, posting two top-10 finishes and five top-20 finishes. Blann scored a season stroke average of 74.59 and carded the lowest round of the year by any Wildcat with his 5-under-par 66 at the UK Bluegrass Invitational in April.

The Pepsi-Super Valu Irvin Cobb Golf Championships features professionals and amateurs alike and is the biggest event in the Paducah area. The tournament is a 36-hole event and is preceded by a pro-am tournament on Friday. The field is comprised of approximately 44 pros and 92 amateurs who compete in their respective divisions.
