Lipsitz Pre-match Interview

LEXINGTON, Ky. – In the midst of a five-game home stretch, the UK women’s soccer team (5-2-0) closes out non-conference play on Sunday, hosting the South Alabama Jaguars at 2:00 p.m.

The Wildcats have had no problem with offense of late, attempting 62 shots over the last three games, but it’s the finishing that UK head coach Jon Lipsitz has focused on in practice. In those three matches, the Cats have managed just two goals.

We have to worry about ourselves right now the most,” Lipsitz said. “We’re creating some great chances, even if you go back to the game a week ago against Louisville. We created unbelievable chances but just missed and we created a lot of chances the last two games also in our victories. We’ve been working a lot on our final pass, on finishing and getting something out of our possession. We’ve had multiple times in the last couple weeks where we’ve had 15-20 straight passes, one and two touch; well that’s great but we want to get something out of it. We’ve been focusing a lot on ourselves lately and I think if we play our best then we can be successful.”

The Wildcats and the Jaguars have never met on the soccer pitch. Over the past two-plus years, the Wildcats have run up a 7-1-3 record against first time opponents including a 4-0 win over Coastal Carolina to open this season and a 2-1 upset of No. 15 Virginia Tech earlier this year.

UK’s offensive attack is led by freshman Taylor Parker, who has a team high seven points off a goal and five assists. She entered the week ranked 20th nationally in assists. Junior Kelsey Hunyadi has scored a team high three goals and ranks second on the team with six points.

Senior goalie Sydney Hiance continues her assault on the UK records books. She enters the match with a 0.72 goals-against-average and three shutouts. Hiance ranks in UK’s top five of four goalkeeping categories. She ranks third in UK history in saves (218) and fourth in GAA (1.21), minutes played (4918:52) and shutouts (18).

Kickoff is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. ET and live stats will be available on UKathletics.com.
