LEXINGTON, Ky. – The University of Kentucky men’s tennis team concluded play at the UNLV Invitational on Sunday with two singles wins and two doubles wins over Fresno State, completing a successful weekend.
Kentucky scored singles wins Sunday from sophomore Anthony Rossi and senior Alberto Gonzalez, while also getting two wins in doubles action from Gonzalez and newcomer Alejandro Gomez, and freshman Grant Roberts and junior Matt Davis.
Rossi, who went 2-1 over the weekend in singles, posted a 6-1, 6-2 win over David Ayoun for his second straight-sets victory of the weekend. Gonzalez followed Rossi with a straight sets victory of his own, beating Remi Boutillier 6-3, 6-3. Gonzalez was impressive all weekend for UK, going 6-0 with three straight-sets wins in singles and three doubles victories.
In doubles, Gonzalez and Gomez took down Siddarth Alapati and Jean-Charles Diame 9-7 for the duos third win of the weekend. Roberts and Davis also scored their third win of the weekend in doubles, defeating Nick Papac and Hugo Verdi Forton 8-6.
Saturday, Kentucky swept the doubles action from Pepperdine, getting wins from senior Brad Cox and Rossi, Gonzalez and Gomez, and Roberts and Davis. UK also got singles wins from Gonzalez and Gomez on Saturday.
The Wildcats return to action Friday, Sept. 24, at the Southern Intercollegiate in Athens, Ga.
