No. 24 Kentucky Heads to No. 45 Vanderbilt, Hosts No. 12 Florida

NASHVILLE – The No. 24 Kentucky men’s tennis team will continue
Southeastern Conference play this week as UK heads to No. 45 Vanderbilt on
Thursday and hosts No. 12 Florida on Saturday. Play is set to begin at 5 p.m. at
Vandy and 1 p.m. against UF at the Boone Tennis Complex.

 

The Cats
only competed once last week, dropping a 4-3 heartbreaker at South Carolina. After
dropping the doubles point, Kentucky earned three singles victories. Nils
Ellefsen, Enzo Wallart and Trey Yates all earned victories.

 

The Cats are
currently ranked No. 24 as a team in the latest ITA rankings, and have multiple
singles and doubles duos ranked. In singles, Will Bushamuka leads the way at
No. 17, while Ryo Matsumura comes in at No. 24. Nils Ellefsen is also ranked at
No. 113. In doubles, Beck Pennington and Wallart are ranked No. 27, jumping up
from 43 spots from the last rankings. The duo of Bushamuka and Ellefsen make
their first appearance in the rankings, coming in at No. 77.

 

Vanderbilt
and Florida last match was against each other, with the Gators coming up with a
7-0 win over the Commodores. Vandy also faced SC last weekend, and fell, 4-2.
Daniel Valent earned a ranked win over No. 88 Harrison O’Keefe in the victory. Florida
played Arkansas as well last weekend, and earned a tight win over No. 46
Arkansas, 4-3. Alfredo Perez earned a top-10 win over No. 6 Mike Redlicki.

 

Florida has
three players ranked in the latest ITA rankings. Alfredo Perez is the highest
ranked at No. 7, while Elliott Orkin is ranked No. 106 and McClain Kessler is
ranked No. 117. In doubles, UF has the No. 6 duo of Johannes Ingildsen and
Alfredo Perez. The Commodores have one ranked singles player, Carmeron Klinger,
at No. 43. In doubles, Klinger joins Pen Binet at No. 14 and the duo of Lachlan
McPhee and Billy Rowe are ranked No. 39.
