LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Kentucky women’s golf team battled through a soggy final round in Stanford, Calif., at the Southeastern Conference/Pacific-10 Women’s Golf Challenge.
The Cats had to play after approximately a two-hour rain delay and higher scores littered the final round’s leaderboard for all teams competing.
“Our girls had a tough day today,” UK head coach Golda Johansson Borst said. “A consistent rain brought delays and difficult conditions. We had a hard time regrouping after an hour weather delay and unfortunately could not get into a good rhythm. The girls stayed tough through the round and bad weather, but were just not unable to find a good groove.”
Sophomore Ashleigh Albrecht, a Murrieta, Calif., native, led Kentucky in the final round with a 6-over-par 77.
Fellow sophomore Betsie Johnson finished in the top-40 out of the tournament’s 108 golfers. Johnson shot a 9-over-par 80 in the final round.
Heather Lott finished second for the Cats. She shot a final round score of 82.
Louise Ljungstedt shot an 81 and Laura McGehee shot an 85.
The SEC/Pac-10 Women’s Golf Challenge marks the end of the fall season for the Kentucky women’s golf team. They will play again Feb. 13 in the UCF Challenge in Sorrento, Fla.
“Now we are looking forward to getting to work during the off season,” Borst said. “We will regroup and get ready for next year by working hard in the weight room, on the course, and in the classroom. February is around the corner and we will be ready.”
