LEXINGTON, KY – UK men’s basketball player Terrence Jones was named the SEC Freshman of the Week as announced by the league office on Monday.

Jones, a 6-8 forward from Portland, Ore., tallied 25 points, 12 rebounds, three steals, two assists and two blocks in a season-opening win over East Tennessee State. He became the first UK freshman to begin his career with a double-double since Jules Camara in the 1998-99 season. Jones is only the second freshman in school history with a 20-10 game in his debut.

The award is his first of the season, and he becomes the seventh Wildcat to earn SEC Freshman of the Week honors since the SEC started the award in the 2006 season. Jodie Meeks received the honor three times in 2007, Patrick Patterson received it three times in 2008 and DeAndre Liggins was named Freshman of the Week once in 2009. Last season UK won the award 11 times, led by John Wall’s five, DeMarcus Cousins’ four and Eric Bledsoe won it twice.

Kentucky returns to action on Friday, Nov. 19 in Portland, taking on the Portland Pilots in the Rose Garden. The game is scheduled for a 10:30 p.m. ET tip and can be seen live on ESPNU.
