LEXINGTON, Ky. – For the second consecutive season the ESPN family of networks will broadcast the entire Southeastern Conference Softball Tournament, and the Kentucky softball team will have one of its regular-season games broadcast on ESPNU for the second straight year.
ESPNU selected the Wildcats at Georgia for a 2 p.m. ET broadcast on Saturday, April 9 in Athens, Ga. A season ago, the Blue and White rallied to take down seventh-ranked Georgia in the friendly confines of the UK Softball Complex behind Samantha DeMartine’s walk-off two-run home run in the bottom of the seventh inning.
SEC softball series’ have shifted to a three-day format in 2011, with all three-game series being played in a Friday-Saturday-Sunday format. Kentucky’s game against Georgia airing live will mark the second game of the series between the two squads.
In addition to the regular season broadcast for the Cats, the ESPN family of networks has selected to broadcast every game of the SEC Tournament being held in Oxford, Miss., May 12-14.
The first quarterfinal contest of the tournament will begin on May 12 at Noon ET. The first three games on the opening day of competition will air in consecutive broadcasts on ESPNU, while the final contest of the night will air live on ESPN2.
The semifinals of the tournament will air in back-to-back broadcasts on May 13 beginning at 3 p.m. ET. This year’s SEC Champion will be crowned on ESPN with an 8 p.m. ET first pitch.
The entire SEC softball schedule consists of 11 regular-season games in addition to the SEC Championship.
The 2010 season saw three SEC softball teams advance to the Women’s College World Series – Tennessee, Georgia and Florida, and overall nine programs earned an NCAA Championship berth.
