LEXINGTON, Ky. – The University of Kentucky men’s golf team will hit the road for the final time this season when it travels to the Hootie at Bulls Bay Intercollegiate for a 54-hole event at Bulls Bay Golf Club in Awendaw, S.C., on Sunday.
The first round of the tournament will be played Sunday with tee times starting at 10 a.m. ET, while the second round will be played Monday and the final round Tuesday.
Kentucky, which claimed the team title at the event in 2005, enters the tournament off a tied for 13th finish at the Schenkel Invitational last weekend. The Wildcats were led at the Schenkel by freshman Cody Martin and sophomore Chase Parker, who each finished in the top 40.
UK will take a mixed lineup of youth and experience on the trip with one senior, one junior, one sophomore and two freshmen. Parker and Martin headline the UK rotation, as both players have been playing tremendous golf this spring. The two underclassmen have finished as Kentucky’s best two golfers in all three events this spring, including each golfer earning a top-five finish at the Mobile Bay Intercollegiate.
Freshman Stephen Powers and senior Brian Belden sit third and fourth respectively in the UK lineup. Powers has played in five events this season, earning a 75.92 season stroke average. Belden has competed in every event this year for Kentucky besides one, earning four top-20 finishes and a season stroke average of 74.32.
Junior Mads Kristensen wraps up the UK rotation. The native of Denmark has teed it up in three events for UK this season with his best finish coming at the Hummingbird Intercollegiate, where he finished tied for 23rd. Kristensen has a season stroke average this year of 75.25.
Kentucky will face some of the best teams in the nation at the event, including Southeastern Conference foes Auburn, Florida, LSU, Ole Miss and South Carolina. Also joining UK at the event is Augusta State, College of Charleston, Duke, North Carolina, North Carolina State, North Florida, Texas A&M, Virginia and Wake Forest.
