Round Three Individual Leaderboard
LEXINGTON, Ky. – Sophomores Heather Lott and Betsie Johnson led the UK women’s golf team in its final round at the Southeastern Conference Women’s Golf Championships held in Auburn, Ala., on Sunday. The Wildcats finished their round with a 20-over par 308 to finish in 10th place.
Lott led the Cats on Sunday with a 3-over par 75. The Baton Rouge, La., native recorded three bogeys on her opening nine, but rebounded on her second nine with a pair of birdies to go along with two bogeys to come in with an even par 36. Lott moved up three positions in the final round and finished in a tie for 38th place for the championship.
Johnson led the Cats throughout the championship with the lowest individual score of the Cats’ five competing golfers, finishing in 23rd place. Johnson made the turn on Sunday at 1-over par and came in with a 3-over par 39. Johnson finished the championship with a score of 3-under par on the course’s four par 5 holes. Johnson’s 23rd place finish is her highest since finishing in a tie for 15th at the Mercedes-Benz Collegiate Championships in October.
Sophomore Ashleigh Albrecht, the Cats’ scoring average leader, finished with a 6-over par 78 to finish in a tie for 46th. Junior Ashlee Rose birdied three holes on Sunday and finished with a 7-over par 79. Freshman Liz Breed, who had to withdraw from the first round due to a right wrist injury, finished her first conference championship with an 8-over par 80.
Auburn won the team championship by 11 strokes this year with a final score of even par. The Tigers led the tournament from the first round to the last round. Erica Popson of Tennessee won the individual championship with a final score of 6-under par.
The Wildcats will now wait to hear their postseason fate. UK head coach Golda Johansson Borst will learn whether the Cats earned a bid to the 2011 NCAA Championships in a conference call on April 25 at 6 p.m. ET. Seventy-two schools are invited to the NCAA Regionals, this year located in Daytona Beach, Fla., Notre Dame, Ind., and Seattle. Each of the three regionals will host 24 schools. The top eight schools from each region will then move on to the NCAA Championships in College Station, Texas.
