No. 13 Kentucky to Host Top-Ranked Florida on Friday

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The No. 13 Kentucky women’s tennis team will look to defend its spotless home record Friday evening, taking on top-ranked Florida at the Boone Tennis Complex. First serve is set for 6 p.m. ET.
Prior to the match, Kentucky will recognize eight members of the program’s inaugural season as a varsity sport in 1974-75. Among those to be honored are UK’s first coach, Claudia Young, who oversaw the transition from a club sport to a varsity program, and players Cathy Cassidy Herrington, Susan Nolan, Jackie Gibson, Janis Mucci, Jane Wheeler Foster, Lynn Shores Mattox and Beth Hanna.
KENTUCKY ATHLETES IN THE NATIONAL RANKINGS
Kentucky’s veteran duo of senior Aldila Sutjiadi and junior Mami Adachi is ranked No. 2 in the ITA rankings. They began 2017 as the nation’s top-ranked pair after winning their first national title at the UTSA/ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships on Nov. 22. The twosome is 13-5 in the spring season, including a 7-3 mark in SEC play, all at No. 1 doubles.
The tandem of Akvile Paražinskaite and Morgan Chumney is also among the nation’s best, at No. 84 in the ITA rankings. The pair owns a 6-3 record in SEC matches this season.
Individually, Sutjiadi is UK’s top-ranked singles player, holding the No. 19 singles spot. In the fall season, Sutjiadi won the singles title at the 2016 Ohio Valley Regional Championships. The senior owns a 7-7 record in dual matches this season all at No. 1 singles.
SCOUTING THE GATORS
Top-ranked Florida (20-1, 10-1 SEC) enters Friday’s match on a seven-match win streak. The Gators’ only loss this season came against then-No. 6 Georgia on March 17.
Florida’s roster features six ranked singles players and three ranked doubles pairs. In singles, the Gators are led by seventh-ranked Belinda Woolcock and in doubles, No. 18 Brroke Austin/Kourtney Keegan lead the way.
NEXT UP
The Wildcats will play their final regular season match on Sunday, hosting No. 12 South Carolina at noon. The match will serve as Senior Day for Kentucky’s two seniors, Morgan Chumney and Aldila Sutjiadi.
