LEXINGTON, Ky. – Sophomore Ashleigh Albrecht paced the Kentucky women’s golf team again Saturday with a 4-over par 76 to conclude play in the East regional of the NCAA Division I Women’s Golf Championships at the Legends Course at LPGA International (6,271 yards, par 72) in Daytona Beach, Fla.
Albrecht led the Cats for the second consecutive day with a 4-over par 76. Albrecht went out in 40, but remained composed on the back nine, paring the first five holes before cashing in a birdie on the par 3 15th. The Murrieta, Calif., native finished the tournament in a tie for 44th.
Junior Ashlee Rose finished her third round with her second consecutive round of 7-over par (79). Rose, a Lexington, Ky., native, recorded three birdies on her round Saturday and finished at 19-over par (235) for the tournament, her best score since March 1 at the Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate Championship.
Sophomore Heather Lott recorded her second consecutive round of 5-over par (77), while freshman Liz Breed improved by two strokes in her final round with an 8-over par 80. Sophomore Betsie Johnson finished with a 12-over par 83 Saturday to finish in a tie with Breed at 23-over par for the tournament.
Alabama, the region’s No. 1 seed, won the regional with a total score of 2-over par. The top eight teams in the region, Alabama, North Carolina, Arizona State, Coastal Carolina, California, Purdue Florida and Vanderbilt, in order, will advance to the NCAA Division I Women’s Golf Championships in Bryan-College Station, Texas at the home of Texas A&M from May 18-21.
Saturday’s third round in Daytona Beach marked the end of the 2010-11 season for the Kentucky women’s golf team. The Wildcats set several program records during Golda Johansson Borst’s first year at the helm. Individually, Albrecht’s 75.36 scoring average per round is the second best in school history, and Lott (76.73) and Johnson (76.91) finish the season ranked 11th and 12th, respectively in the UK record books. Albrecht’s eight rounds of par or better this season set a UK record and her 12 career rounds of par or better are also a UK record.
UK’s team average of 306.30 is the second best in school history, and UK’s rounds of 287 in the first round of the UCF Challenge and 288 in the third round of the Cougar Classic are the second and third lowest rounds, respectively, in program history.
