LEXINGTON, Ky. – University of Kentucky swimmers and divers Lisa Faulkner, Lindsey Graessle, Kayla Sergesketter and Chatham Penrod have been named scholar All-Americans by the College Swimming Coaches Association of America, announced Wednesday.
The CSCAA presents the Scholar All American award to college and university swimmers and divers who have achieved a grade point average of 3.5 or higher and have qualified for their respective national championship. Faulkner, a diver, as well as swimmers Graessle, Sergesketter and Penrod, were all seniors on UK’s women’s swimming and diving team in 2010-11.
Faulkner earned All-America honors on the platform and All-America honorable mention accolades on the one- and three-meter boards at the NCAA championships in Austin, Texas. Faulkner ranks highly on many of the top 10 lists in the program’s diving history, including third on the one- and three-meter boards and second on the platform.
Graessle competed in the 200-freestyle relay, 400-medley relay, 200-medley relay, 100 breaststroke and 200 breaststroke at the NCAA championships in 2011. Graessle has the second fastest time in program history in the 100 breast, and the fourth fastest in the 200 breast. Graessle, along with Penrod, Mandy Myers and Sergesketter, hold UK’s fastest time in the 200- and 400-medley relays.
Sergesketter, a native of Jasper, Ind., competed in the 50 free, 200-freestyle relay, 400-medley relay, 200-medley relay and 100 free at the NCAA championships in 2011. Sergesketter had a great senior campaign and holds the fastest time in program history in the 200 free. She also ranks fourth in the 50 free and second in the 100 free.
Penrod earned All-America honorable mention honors in the women’s 100 backstroke with a 16th-place finish. Penrod also competed in the 200 backstroke in addition to the 200-free relay and 200- and 400-medley relays. Penrod owns UK’s best times in the 100 and 200 back in the history of the program.
The CSCAA is the oldest coaches’ organization in America. In addition to Scholar All American Awards, the CSCAA recognizes All American swimmers and divers at the national championships every year.
