LEXINGTON, Ky. — Following Saturday’s Fan Day practice in Commonwealth Stadium, head coach Joker Phillips and the 2011 Kentucky football team returned to its normal practice home at the Nutter Training Facility on Sunday afternoon.

“It was a good day,” Phillips said after practice, in which the players worked out in helmets, shoulder pads and shorts. “We got some really good film and now we have to watch the film and see who actually separated themselves today now that we put some pads on.”

One area Phillips continues to emphasize is the team’s ability to not only create more turnovers this season but also prevent turnovers from happening offensively. Kentucky was 4-0 last season in games in which the Wildcats won the turnover margin, but only 2-7 when tying or losing the turnover battle.   Phillips said that has to change in order for UK to move up the ladder in the SEC.

“The difference from us winning seven, eight, nine games last year was turnovers,” Phillips said. “Let’s be real. It was us creating turnovers and creating takeaways and us giving the ball away. Everybody has to understand how important turnovers are to this football team and this football program. It is the difference for us, it really is.”

Kentucky returns to the practice field Monday continuing its preparation for the team’s first full-pads practice on Tuesday.
