LEXINGTON, Ky. – University of Kentucky senior punter Ryan Tydlacka and senior safety/linebacker Winston Guy have been named game captains for Kentucky’s Southeastern Conference contest with Vanderbilt on Saturday at 12:21 p.m. ET inside Vanderbilt Stadium in Nashville, Tenn.
Game captains are usually chosen on the basis of performance in the previous game. Tydlacka had a solid game for Kentucky against Ole Miss, launching six punts for an average of 41.8 yards and two punts that pinned Ole Miss inside the 20-yard line. The native of Louisville, Ky., has been named honorable mention National Punter of the Week by the College Football Performance Awards multiple times this season. Tydlacka ranks second in the SEC this season and 17th in the nation in punting.
Guy had a very good game for Kentucky against Ole Miss, earning his seventh double-figure tackle game of the season when he had 10 tackles, including 2.5 tackles for loss and a quarterback hurry. One of Guy’s biggest plays came in the first quarter when he tracked down a speedy Ole Miss ballcarrier en route to the end zone, saving a touchdown. Guy ranks second in the SEC and tied for 16th in tackles per game with a 10.33 mark, while his 1.22 tackles for loss per game is tied for fourth in the conference and tied for 38th in the nation.
Tydlacka and Guy will join permanent game captains Danny Trevathan and Stuart Hines at the pregame coin toss.
Phillips announced after practice Thursday that defensive linebacker/end Ridge Wilson is doubtful to travel with the team this weekend after sustaining an injury last week against Ole Miss. Freshman Alvin “Bud” Dupree is expected to fill in for Wilson, according to Phillips.
