LEXINGTON, Ky. – Former University of Kentucky men’s golfer Andy Winings (2005-2009) finished in a tie for fourth during the second stage of Q-School on Friday and will now move on to the third and final stage in hopes of earning his PGA Tour card.
Winings finished in a tie for fourth Friday among the 77 competing golfers after carding a 72-hole total of 10-under par (278) at the Southern Hills Plantation Club in Brooksville, Fla. Winings opened play with back-to-back rounds of 2-under par 70 before carding a 4-under par 67 on moving day and a 1-under par 71 on Friday. Winings’ 21 birdies were the most in the field.
The top 21 golfers from the second stage of Q-School advance to the third and final qualifying stage held at PGA West (Nicklaus Tournament & Stadium) on Nov. 30-Dec. 5. The top 25 golfers from the third stage will be eligible for 2012 PGA Tour membership. The next 50 golfers after that will be eligible for Nationwide Tour membership.

Winings, who played at Kentucky from 2005-2009, was a star both on and off the course, earning academic All-SEC honors as a junior and senior, and All-SEC second team honors as a junior and senior. Winings was also named the team MVP as a sophomore, junior and senior, and was a team captain as a junior and senior.
In the UK record books, Winings owns the third lowest 54-hole score in the Craig era, carding a 6-under par (207) at the NCAA Regional in Sorrento, Fla., to finish in a tie for 10th. Winings also has a tie for the second lowest individual round in the Craig era, shooting a 65 in the second round of the 2009 Hootie at Bulls Bay Intercollegiate.
The current crop of Kentucky Wildcats will begin their spring season Feb. 20 at the Mobile Bay Intercollegiate in Mobile Ala. The Wildcats charted five top-10 finishes during the fall, including a team victory at the UK Bluegrass Fall Invitational.
