OKLAHOMA CITY – Assistant coach Molly Johnson has been selected as one of 12 athletes named to the 2012 USA Softball Women’s National Team it was announced on Wednesday. Johnson is now a three-time selection to the team.

The Amateur Softball Association (ASA) announced 12 athletes to the squad, and also revealed 11 additional athletes invited to the try-out in January on Wednesday.

Johnson started in 11 of 13 games in 2011 for Team USA. She batted 15-for-30 (.500) with nine runs scored and 10 RBI. She also contributed five doubles.

UK’s assistant coach and former All-America shortstop was a cornerstone for Team USA’s dominating performance for a gold medal at the Pan Am Games.

There, she led the bats with an astounding .706 batting average to pace the team. She turned in a 12-for-17 performance with four doubles and eight RBI. Defensively, she made seven starts at shortstop and turned in 10 assists and a pair of putouts to provide excellent defensive prowess to the dominating pitching staff.

After earning an invitation for the try-out during her senior season at Kentucky, Johnson has spent the last two summers suiting up for the Red, White and Blue.

The Women’s National Team will compete at the World Cup of Softball in Oklahoma City, the Canadian Open Fast Pitch International Championship in Surrey, B.C., Canada, and the World Championship in Whitehorse, Yukon, Canada. Additional events may be added to the team schedules at a later date.
