LEXINGTON, Ky. – University of Kentucky women’s basketball senior guard Keyla Snowden has been named to the Southeastern Conference Community Service Team, as announced by the league office Tuesday morning.

Snowden has had a productive season on the court for the No. 10 UK Hoops team, but it’s what she has done off the court that has garnered her placement on the community service team. Snowden has been a very active member in UK’s “Cats Who Care” community service program throughout her Wildcat career. The Lexington, Ky., native has volunteered to pack and deliver food for God’s Pantry BackPack program, helped pack relief bags for UK’s Joplin tornado relief program and participated in a local YMCA’s fall festival. During the holidays, Snowden volunteered as a Salvation Army bell ringer. Snowden also served as the Southern Hills 5K celebrity race start, participated in Lexington’s fire prevention parade and was a guest speaker at various elementary schools.

“It’s an honor to be named to the SEC Community Service Team,” Snowden said. “We have so many people who support us here so it’s good to give back to our community, especially to people who are less fortunate than us. We are in a position to show people that we care about what they do for us and it just feels good to give back.”

On the court, the SEC Sixth Woman of the Year candidate is the Wildcats’ third leading scorer, averaging 8.9 points per game. Snowden is second on the team with 43 made 3-point field goals, and has the second best free-throw shooting percentage in the SEC in conference games only, making 34 of her 40 attempts (.850).

Kentucky will play again Friday at 1 p.m. ET in the quarterfinals of the SEC Tournament. The Wildcats will play the winner of the first round matchup between Florida and Auburn. The Wildcats swept the regular season series against Florida this year, and defeated Auburn in their only matchup of the season. Kentucky’s SEC regular season championship is its first since 1982.
