FEDERAL WAY, Wash. – Sophomore diver Greg Ferrucci powered his way to an 11th-place finish on the one-meter springboard at day one of the 2012 NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships on Thursday night by way of scoring a 342.55, finishing higher than any other SEC diver in the field.

“Outstanding effort by Greg Ferrucci today,” UK head diving coach Ted Hautau said. “He was a little off on his timing on his first two dives in the prelims, but settled in and moved into the top-16 midway through the prelims. He never quits no matter the circumstance, or how the competition is going. He is like a pitbull.”

Also competing Thursday was Tyler Reed and Lucas Gerotto representing the Blue and White on the swimming side. Reed competed in the 50-freestyle and took home a 46th-place finish recording a time of 20.06. Gerotto competed in the 200-IM, placing 51st overall with a time of 1:51.17.

“Even though Lucas and Tyler didn’t score, they showed signs of being ready for their better events.” UK head swimming coach Gary Conelly said. “Greg (Ferrucci) continues to shine. He handled the pressure well and really came through with a great performance. We are excited and looking forward to tomorrow.”

The 2012 NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships will continue Friday with a full slate of competition at the Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatic Center. Fans can watch the night session live on ESPN3.com with national coverage beginning at 10:00 p.m. ET.
