LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Kentucky volleyball team will wrap-up a competitive spring schedule with a home tournament this Saturday at Memorial Coliseum. Matches with Purdue and Ohio State are open to the public with free admission.
Kentucky will play Purdue at 10 a.m. ET. The Boilermakers will then take on Ohio State at noon, before the weekend wraps with the home team Wildcats facing the Buckeyes at 2 p.m.
“We are looking forward to these matches this weekend,” UK coach Craig Skinner said. “We have had a productive spring to this point working on specific things. The spring allows us to experiment with new concepts and lineups for the fall. Playing against good competition with Purdue and Ohio State will give us a good gauge on what our players need to focus on this summer to prepare for the 2012 season.
“These matches are open to the public and it will be a good chance for our fans to see elite level volleyball right here in the Coliseum,” Skinner said.”
The Wildcats return the bulk of its starting lineup from a Sweet 16 team a season ago including All-Americans Whitney Billings, Christine Hartmann and Stephanie Klefot.
UK’s top attackers during the NCAA Tournament run in Ashley Frazier and Lauren O’Conner also return for the Blue and White.
Ohio State turned in a 21-15 overall record and advanced to the Sweet 16 for the second consecutive season. Purdue also was a Sweet 16 member after placing second in the Big Ten with a 29-5 overall record.
