LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Kentucky women’s soccer team was picked by league coaches to finish fourth in the SEC’s East Division in the 2012 SEC Preseason Coaches’ Poll as announced by the conference office on Friday.
The Wildcats received 56 points, which was fourth behind Florida (90), Georgia (70) and South Carolina (70).
Texas A&M was selected to win the SEC’s West Division.
Overall, league coaches picked Florida to win the SEC Championship (10 votes), while Texas A&M picked up the other four votes.
Additionally, Arin Gilliland, Caitlin Landis and Alyssa Telang where are selected to the SEC Preseason Watch list.
The Wildcats return nine starters and 18 letterwinners from last year’s NCAA Tournament team, and the Cats’ 2012 freshman class was ranked sixth by Top Drawer Soccer.
Landis is Kentucky’s leading returning scorer, tallying 14 points on six goals and two assists. The Wildcat back line returns three of its four starters, including Gilliland, who was named All-SEC and Freshman All-SEC last season, and Telang.
The women’s soccer team kicks off the 2012 UK Athletics year on Friday, Aug. 17 at 7:00 p.m. ET when UK will play host to Coastal Carolina at the UK Soccer Complex.
