Zionsville, Ind. – After recording the third lowest round of all the teams in the field on Sunday, the University of Kentucky men’s golf team climbed a couple spots to place fifth at the Wolf Run Invitational in Zionsville, Ind. On perhaps the toughest day on the course, the Wildcats turned in a team scorecard of 9-over-par 293, finishing the tournament at 27-over-par.
“Our boys played a very solid round in championship conditions today,” head coach Brian Craig said. “Wolf Run was simply a monster today and we did okay. We were close to having a great round and I am proud of the way we battled. We have some improving to do but this team is only going to get better as the season progresses.”
UK entered the final round in a tie for sixth with Akron, but were able to get some distance from the Zips and jump Michigan State, who began the day in fifth. Illinois ended up capturing the 14-team invitational, with a score of 3-over-par.
Cody Martin fired the lowest round for the Cats on the afternoon, carding a 1-over-par 72. The junior finished the 54-hole stroke-play event in a tie for 27th at 9-over.
After struggling in the opening round of the tournament, Will Bishop bounced back in his final two rounds, including a 2-over-par 73 on Sunday. Bishop wrapped up the invitational tied for 20th at 7-over.
Junior Stephen Powers led Kentucky over the three rounds, with a final score of 5-over-par 218. The Naperville, Ill., native completed the tournament in a tie for 15th after shooting 3-over-par 74 on Sunday.
Chase Parker recorded a final round score of 6-over-par 77 and was tied for 31st at 10-over. Sophomore David Snyder posted a 3-over-par 74 on the day, finishing tied for 41st at 13-over.
Joseph Barr was also tied for 41st at 13-over-par, while freshman Harrison Greenberry and senior Seth Blann finished 58th and 67th, respectively. Barr, Greenberry and Blann participated in the tournament as individuals.
