LEXINGTON, Ky. – The University of Kentucky women’s soccer team (13-6-1, 8-5-1 SEC) has been selected for its ninth appearance in the NCAA Women’s Soccer Tournament as the Wildcats were chosen to host an opening-round game against UT-Martin (12-5-3, 8-1-1 Ohio Valley) on Friday night at 7:00 p.m. ET at the UK Soccer Complex.
It is the second-straight year that Lexington has been selected as a host site for the opening round of the tournament, after netting the third-highest attendance of any first-round site in 2011.
“Obviously we are incredibly excited to be hosting again,” UK head coach Jon Lipsitz said. “Last year there were 32 first-round games, and we had the third-highest attendance of all 32 games. We know all of Big Blue Nation supports us and we are looking forward to having the No. 1 biggest crowd.”
Tickets for Friday’s match against UT-Martin are available for purchase beginning on Wednesday Nov. 9 at 9:00 a.m. ET. Tickets can be purchased by contacting the UK Ticket Office between 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. ET or by calling 1.800.928.2278. Ticket prices are $7 for adults, $5 for students (2-18 years old), $3 for senior citizens (65+), with children under the age of two admitted for free. The Wildcats were a mainstay in the top 35 of the RPI all season, as the Wildcats recorded wins over two nationally-ranked teams in No. 12 Louisville and No. 13 Florida.
UT-Martin and UK have never met in program history. The Skyhawks received an automatic bid to the 2012 NCAA Tournament after winning the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament, registering a 2-0 win over Austin Peay in the championship match.
UK was one of six SEC teams to make the field of 64, joining Auburn, Florida, Missouri, Texas A&M and Tennessee.
