UK Doubles Duo Ascends to No. 1 in the Country

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Kentucky women’s tennis’ dynamic duo of Akvile Paražinskaite and Fiona Arrese ascended to the No. 1 ranking in the April 14 release of the Oracle ITA doubles rankings the organization announced on Wednesday. Kentucky’s top doubles squad is 19-1 (.950) on the season. Their winning percentage also leads the country.
 
Paražinskaite and Arrese have racked up 19 wins on the No. 1 doubles court and are 16-1 in regular-season competition. Furthermore, Kentucky’s tandem is 6-1 against ranked foes in 2020-21.
 
UK’s doubles team is fresh off a win over Mississippi State’s 14th-ranked team of Alexa Bortles and Anna Vrbenska in a 7-5 outcome.
 
Additional rankings include Kentucky moving to No. 26 overall. Paražinskaite is rated as the No. 45 player in the country, while Lesedi Jacobs is No. 95 in singles.
 
Paražinskaite and Arrese are looking to become the second tandem in program history to finish the season as the No. 1 ranked doubles team. Previously, Mami Adachi and Aldila Sutjiadi capped the 2016 season ranked No. 1.
 
The 2021 Southeastern Conference Tournament begins action on Monday in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Regular-season competition has yet to finish for all member institutions therefore UK’s opponent and time for its opening-round match has not been determined yet.
