Fields Wins 3k, McLaughlin, JCQ Maintain Form Saturday at TPI

CLEMSON, S.C. – Brennan Fields won the 3,000 meters, Sydney McLaughlin and Jasmine Camacho-Quinn led a contingent of Wildcats running nationally elite 200m times and Marie-Josée Ebwea-Bile was top collegian in the triple jump to carry the banner for the Kentucky track and field program on Saturday at Clemson’s Tiger Paw Invitational.

Fields won the 3k in 8:19.80 with a nice kick in the final straight. Matthew Thomas was fourth in that race with a time of 8:23.83 after making the pace in the late stages.
 
McLaughlin set the Kentucky freshman record and became the No. 2 indoor 200m performer in school history with a time of 22.95 to place second overall. That time ranks No. 2 in the NCAA this year. That time ranks No. 2 in the NCAA this year. The time ranks No. 4 on the world all-time junior list, and was the fastest by a junior athlete in 10 years, per IAAF statistician Jon Mulkeen.

Camacho-Quinn ran an indoor personal best in that race, 23.00, which makes her the No. 3 performer on the UK indoor list all-time.

Kayelle Clarke also ran an indoor PB 23.12, moving to No. 4 on the UK all-time list. Kianna Gray ran 23.20 to place eighth, also an NCAA top-20 time this year.

Ebwea-Bile was second overall, top collegian, in the women’s triple jump with a mark of 44’1.25″/13.44m.
 
Matthew Peare placed fourth in the men’s pole vault, clearing 16’2.75″/4.95m.
 
Friday report from Iowa State
Jacob Thomson finished seventh in the Iowa State Classic 5k with an absolute (indoor and outdoor) personal best 13:41.33. He already owned the UK school records indoors and out. Thomson now ranks ninth in the nation in the 5k this year. He also ranks ninth in the 3k. The other Wildcat to run at Iowa State was Katy Kunc who finished 17th in the women’s 5k with a time of 16:19.65.
 
Friday report from Clemson
Ben Young ran 3:59.59 to place second in the Tiger Paw men’s mile. He became the 507th American to join the sub-four-minute mile club, and the fifth Wildcat to do so.

Michelle McKinney ran a mile PB 4:47.08 to win the women’s mile.

Camacho-Quinn was top collegian in the women’s 60m hurdles with a personal best, NCAA-leading 7.95, second overall to Kendra Harrison’s American record 7.72.
