Kentucky Men’s Tennis Heads to ITA All-American Championships

TULSA, Okla – Two Wildcats – No. 42 Ryo Matsumura and No. 9 Will Bushamuka – will compete in the ITA Men’s All-American Championships beginning Thursday.
 
The University of Tulsa is hosting the Saint Francis Health System ITA Men’s All-American Championship for the 13th straight season, with matches taking place on the courts of the Michael D. Case Tennis Center. Qualifying singles were held on Oct. 2-3, with Trey Yates participating in qualifying.
 
In addition to vying for the All-American national title, players will be competing to secure a berth into the 2017 Oracle ITA National Fall Championships, which takes place November 1-5, in Palm Desert, California. Singles quarterfinalists, consolation singles champion and finalist, along with doubles semifinalists and consolation doubles champion and finalist advance to the end of fall national championship.
 
Matsumura will take on No. 3 Petros Chrysochos of Wake Forest University on Thursday at 11:30 a.m. The winner of that match will face either Marius Frosa of Wichita State of Michael Geerts of Arizona State, who both advanced out of qualifying.
 
Bushamuka, the No. 6 seed in the tournament, will face No. 104 Alexander Lebedev at 12:30 p.m. The winner of that match will face either JJ Wolf of Ohio State or Peter Bertran of South Florida on Friday.
 
Yates earned one win in qualifying, over Tristan Meraut of Oklahoma State, 3-6, 7-6 (4), 5-1, Ret last Monday. He was eliminated on Tuesday by Kyle Seelig of Ohio State, 6-3, 6-3.
